Noa Naamat

Israeli stage director Noa Naamat is currently on a two-year engagement (2017-2019) as the stage director of the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Naamat has worked on over 40 productions across Israel, Germany, Italy, Austria, the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland. Her directorial credits include Don Pasquale, L’elisir d’amore and Don Giovanni for Arezzo Opera Festival, La voix humaine for Studiotheater Schloss Belvedere Weimar and Salieri’s rarely performed work Prima la musica e poi le parole for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In addition, she has staged numerous opera scenes and galas for festivals in Italy. Her new production of Il matrimonio segreto for Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music won the National Opera Association’s Opera Production Competition.

In the 2017/2018 season, Naamat made her Royal Opera House debut, directing the Young Artists Summer Performance, which included excerpts from Ariadne auf Naxos, Rake’s Progress, Hamlet and L’italiana in Algeri. Highlights in the 2018/2019 season include directing Henze’s Phaedra at the Royal Opera House and returning to stage the Young Artists Summer Performance on the main stage.

Naamat has also worked internationally as assistant director for companies such as the Wiener Staatsoper, Scottish Opera, The Israeli Opera, Deutsches Nationaltheater und Staatskapelle Weimar, Lismore Opera Festival, Royal Opera House and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

Before completing her MA in Directing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Naamat studied Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, as well as History of Opera and Italian Studies at the Accademia Europea di Firenze. She was the apprentice director at Lyric Opera Studio Weimar and at Oberlin’s Summer Opera Program in Italy. She has been awarded the Bayreuth Bursary from The Wagner Society and was the recipient of the Accademia Europea dell’Opera Stage Director Fellowship. She also held a stage directing residency at Shakespeare’s Globe, directing scenes from The Merchant of Venice on the Globe stage.
