Crypt Lates Recital
Friday 25 March 2022

After performing Berlioz’s L’enfance du Christ with the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique in December 2021, our current string Apprentices reunited to perform two concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields in February and March.

On Friday 25 February, after a period of workshops under the tuition of principals from the ORR, the Apprentices gave a lunchtime recital at St Martin’s. The programme featured chamber music by Schubert, Puccini and Rossini, and showcased the specialised talent of these gifted young string players.

One month later, the Apprentices returned to Trafalgar Square to perform in St Martin’s ‘Crypt Lates’ series. This was an opportunity to hear more exquisite Romantic chamber music, in the intimate and atmospheric setting of the church’s vaulted Crypt. During another week of intensive workshops with their mentors from the ORR, the young musicians explored more 19th and 20th century repertoire, including works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Turina.
