Hannah Ludwig

The New York Times calls mezzo-soprano Hannah Ludwig “best in show” and further exclaims: “Her tone chocolatey and large, yet with focus and agility, she captured the integral aspect of bel canto…expression emerging from a long, intelligently shaped musical line.”

She begins her 2025-26 with this debut for the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras. A prolific interpreter of the repertoire of Rossini, she made her European debut as Isabella in L’italiana in Algeri with Eroica Berlin, a recording of which was released on the Pan Classics label. She has joined Teatro Nuovo as Calbo in Maometto II, Pippo in La gazza ladra, Isaura in Tancredi, and Rosina in Il barbiere di Sviglia. Other recent performances include Third Servant in Die Frau ohne Schatten (Metropolitan Opera), Maddalena in Rigoletto (Utah Opera), Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte Floßhilde in Das Rheingold (Dallas Opera), Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor (Opera Philadelphia), Giovanna Seymour in Anna Bolena (Opera Baltimore), Page in Salome (Houston Symphony), and the District Attorney in Central Park Five (Portland Opera).

Ludwig is also sought-after on the concert stage and has sung Handel’s Messiah with Fabio Biondi conducting both the New York Philharmonic and National Symphony Orchestra. She has also sung Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky and Elgar’s Sea Pictures (Colorado Symphony), Mozart’s Requiem (Columbus Symphony), and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 (Flint Symphony Orchestra).
