MCO gives inaugural performances in Russia

On 26 and 27 September, we gave our first ever Russian performances in Moscow’s Zaryadye Hall and the St Petersburg Philharmonia. The Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists, led by John Eliot Gardiner, showcased a programme of Italian choral masterpieces by Monteverdi, Carissimi and Domenico Scarlatti, alongside works by Purcell, to full houses at both venues.

“The musicians of Gardiner are distinguished by exceptional teamwork: everything is perfected to the smallest detail” - Izvestia (full review)

These concerts formed part of the 2019 UK-Russia Year of Music and were supported by the British Council.

Programme
Monteverdi Messa a 4 voci da cappella
D. Scarlatti Stabat mater
Purcell Hear my prayer, O Lord
Purcell Jehova, quam multi sunt hostes
Carissimi Jephte

John Eliot Gardiner and the ensembles continue this tour throughout the Autumn, making further international debuts in Slovakia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay - for more info on this project, click here.
