We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Judith McCartin Scheide, a close friend of the Monteverdi Choir & Orchestras, on 30 December 2023.
Judith was a generous philanthropist, with a particular interest in history and The Arts, and we are especially grateful for her support of the landmark Monteverdi 450 Project in 2017, which saw productions of Monteverdi’s three surviving operas tour to significant venues in Europe and America to celebrate the composer’s 450th Birthday, for which she was one of the major funders.
In 2015, Judith also donated the well-known portrait of J.S. Bach by Haussman to the Leipzig Bach Archive and Museum, following the death of her husband, American historian, musicologist and philanthropist, William H. Scheide.
She will be greatly missed by MCO, and our condolences are with her family and friends at this difficult time.
