We are saddened to learn of the passing of our President Ian Hay Davison CBE. As the founder of the Monteverdi Trust, the first Chair of the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras, and, more recently, our President, we are entirely indebted to Ian for being the lifeblood of our company over so many years. We send our condolences to his wife, Morny, and family.
‘It came as very sad news that our President and former chairman, Ian Hay Davison, passed away on 20 September 2022. Ian was a wonderful person: he had a razor-sharp mind and an exceptional ability to solve problems which defeated mere mortals. He was a loyal supporter of the Monteverdi Choir & Orchestras over several decades, and he and his devoted wife, Morny, became dear friends. Ian’s dedication to the board of the Monteverdi Trust was inspirational: it was his skill, persuasiveness, and enthusiasm for the end product which made many of our most cherished and ambitious projects see the light of day. I am thus hugely grateful for all that Ian did for the Monteverdi - in good times and bad, and I send condolences to his wife and family.’
John Eliot Gardiner - Founder & Artistic Director
‘Ian Hay Davison was a rare polymath, combining great analytical and execution capability in business with an enlightened, generous and unstinting commitment to the arts, above all music. He was an invariable inspiration to his great circle of friends and colleagues and will be greatly missed.’
