In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Berlioz’s death in 2019, John Eliot Gardiner led the Monteverdi Choir, Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique and a cast of international soloists in performances of Berlioz’s Benvenuto Cellini across Europe. This tour concluded with a concert at the Opéra Royal in the Palace of Versailles, which was filmed and subsequently released on DVD in 2020.
We are now delighted that this DVD recording has received this year’s Oper! Award for the ‘Best Opera Recording’. The Oper! Awards began in 2019 and honours the top creatives of the international opera scene, awarding soloists, ensembles, conductors, directors and opera houses across 20 categories.
