The ORR’s Beethoven 250 education project continued in New York this week as Assistant Conductor Dinis Sousa and principals from the orchestra joined students from the National Youth Orchestra of the USA to explore Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Together with Peter Hanson (Leader), Oliver Wilson (Principal Viola), Robin Michael (Principal Cello), Marten Root (Principal Flute), Anneke Scott (Principal Horn) and Robert Kendell (Principal Timpani), Sousa shared the ORR’s pioneering approach to Beethoven’s work as he led the NYO-USA in rehearsal.
The project runs in parallel with the ORR’s performances of the Beethoven symphony cycle. In Barcelona, Sousa and the principals worked on Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony with students of the Conservatori Liceu, and the project continues with a visit to the Music Institute of Chicago.
