Beethoven Missa solemnis in D Major, Op. 123

On 5 November 1989, a performance of Beethoven’s Missa solemnis at London’s Royal Festival Hall marked the founding of the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique by John Eliot Gardiner, giving birth to a new kind of period instrument ensemble. Now, three decades later, the ORR brings both its 30th anniversary and Beethoven 250 celebrations to a close with a series of performances of the composers’ glorious mass setting.

The Monteverdi Choir and an acclaimed quartet of soloists join the orchestra and John Eliot Gardiner on a tour that includes performances at some of Europe’s most prestigious music festivals.
