Composed in the last months of the German composer’s life, Bach’s Mass in B Minor is considered to be the culmination of a life devoted to sacred music, illustrating the tapestry of human emotion and spiritual reflection.
Both Catholic and Lutheran, the mass stands as Bach’s personal testament: a summation of his musical genius and a gesture of transcendent faith. From the solemn intensity of the Kyrie to the jubilant brilliance of the Gloria, every movement speaks to both the divine and the deeply human.
For this cornerstone of sacred repertoire, Laurence Equilbey joined together Insula orchestra and the accentus choir with the Monteverdi Choir.
