MONTEVERDI 450 at the V&A
15 December at 6.30pm

Monteverdi Choir
English Baroque Soloists
Sir John Eliot Gardiner - conductor

RPS MUSIC AWARD WINNER (Opera and Music Theatre)

Sir John Eliot Gardiner, English Baroque Soloists, Monteverdi Choir and a cast of international soloists performed highlights from the Monteverdi 450 tour to coincide with the V&A’s Opera: Passion, Power and Politics exhibition.

This concluding concert was the only chance to catch a glimpse of the tour in London. It also marked 50 years since John Eliot Gardiner first conducted at the V&A in 1967 to celebrate Monteverdi’s 400th anniversary. The concert included highlights from the Monteverdi Trilogy: L’Orfeo, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, L’incoronazione di Poppea and other Monteverdi favourites.

The event was in two parts: a series of promenade performances in selected galleries around the museum from 6.30pm, followed by a seated concert in the Raphael Cartoon Gallery at 7.30pm. Monteverdi 450 at the V&A was dedicated to the memory of our loyal supporter and friend, Kevin Lavery who sadly passed away shortly before the concert in October 2017.
