The Monteverdi Choir and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique continued their commitment in 2016 to Berlioz with performances of his third symphony, Roméo et Juliette at the BBC Proms and Festival Berlioz. Inspired by a performance of Shakespeare’s play, Berlioz takes an innovative approach in this work, using orchestral forces to express the sublime nature of Roméo and Juliette’s love, while the choral forces play a narrative role, building towards the reconciliation scene of the finale.
