After a relatively quiet few months, the Monteverdi ensembles and John Eliot Gardiner are getting ready to be on the road with several very different projects this autumn. There will be opportunities to hear us in the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and the United States performing a varied repertoire:

Sir John Eliot Gardiner becomes Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur

On 14th April, Sir John Eliot Gardiner was officially named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur by France's former Culture Minister, Jean-Jacques Aillagon, at a ceremony in the Versailles palace.

This award acknowledges the services rendered to French music by Mr Gardiner who was the artistic director of the Opera de Lyon for five years, and has championed French composers throughout his conducting career.

Weber "Le Freischutz" at the Opera Comique

In April, Sir John Eliot Gardiner leads the Monteverdi Choir and the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique in a staged production on Weber's "Freischutz" at the Opéra Comique in Paris.

This is a very rare opportunity to hear the work sung in its 1841 version, with the translation and spoken dialogues written by Berlioz.

Encouraging Curiosity and Creativity

“With One Voice” is an innovative music education programme which provides students and teachers in London access to the world’s finest musicians and creative training. It celebrates the creative potential of people getting together who speak many languages. As a mirror of contemporary society, we will use Bach's Cantata BWV 59 that portrays a world where many languages meet in a multicultural market place.
