Sir John Eliot Gardiner wins Prague Classic Award

Sir John Eliot Gardiner became one of the first holders of the new Prague Classic Awards. He received the award for promoting Czech music internationally, pursuing the legacy of his friend and predecessor Sir Charles Mackerras.

Since 2000 Gardiner has systematically been putting up works by Czech composers in concerts worldwide including Janáček, Dvořák, Martinu, Zelenka e.g. Katya Kabanova in 2006 at Teatro alla Scala Jenufa at the Salzburger Festspiele | Salzburg Festival 2001 with the Česká filharmonie and conducting Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra Stockholms Konserthus in Dvorak 7th Symphony during the Nobel Prize ceremony in 2008.
